Manchester United and Manchester City could soon renew a bitter rivalry in the transfer market, according to reports.
According to The Sun, the two Manchester giants are both keen on signing Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, the Tottenham Hotspur full backs who have been among the English Premier League's most impressive in their positions so far this season.
While a move for both could cost upwards of £60 million, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy a notoriously tough negotiator, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, the respective United and City managers, needs to fill full-back positions.
City's need is perhaps greater, with Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna seemingly coming towards the end of their careers at Etihad Stadium. Mourinho, meanwhile, has long-standing concerns over the fitness of left back Luke Shaw and will need a replacement for the versatile Antonio Valencia in the next two seasons.
Any transfer tussle between United and City is always likely to bring back memories of the summer of 2008, when Sir Alex Ferguson pinched Dimitar Berbatov of Tottenham from under the nose of then City manager Mark Hughes. This rivalry is likely to be a whole lot more poisonous.
