Dave Rosa: Fire Captain Killed After Shooting at Long Beach Retirement Home

A fire captain was killed Monday after a shooting at a Southern California retirement home. Captain Dave Rosa, a 17-year veteran of the Long Beach Fire Department, was shot at the scene and died at a nearby hospital, the Associated Press reported.

Rosa, 45, was among two firefighters and one civilian shot. He was transported in critical condition to St. Mary Medical Center, where he died. The remaining firefighter and civilian suffered non-life threatening injuries.

"This is a tough day," said Long Beach Fire Chief Mike Duree, according to KTLA. "It's a tough day."

The suspect in the shooting, an unidentified male, was detained at the scene. He was believed to have been a resident of the facility, KABC-TV reported.

Authorities were first called to the scene amid reports of an active shooter and an explosion. Rosa was part of the response team that arrived at Covenant Manor, a senior living facility.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
