Lewis Tan was the Iron Fist everyone wanted. Finn Jones got the job, though, and Tan ended up playing Zhou Cheng in the series 8th episode. While the scene was very entertaining, fans who hoped to see more of Tan are finally getting their wish. The actor confirmed his role in Deadpool 2, and if rumors prove true, he's playing Shatterstar.
"The gang is all here. Recognize someone?" Tan posted on Instagram. The photo (above) shows Deadpool presumably leading X-Force into battle and the character Tan is referring to is standing behind Deadpool's left shoulder. While we don't know for sure Tan is playing Shatterstar, we do at least have confirmation Shatterstar is in the film.
Stefan Kapičić, who plays Colossus, told Inverse, "That's not CGI of Terry Crews, that is Terry Crews. You can see it clearly. You can see behind him, Shatterstar, a really cool thing for people to geek out."
Shatterstar was created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, first appearing in New Mutants Vol. 1 #99 in March 1991. He later became a member of X-Force under Cable's lead. In the comics, he's from a planet called Mojoworld. He was genetically engineered-- giving him enhanced senses reflexes, intelligence, you name it--but his origins have always remained a bit blurred. At one point he was seemingly revealed to be Dazzler and Longshot's son. He's known for his double-bladed sword that can send shockwaves, as well as the ability to open X-shaped teleportation portals.
There's been a lot of discussion about Shatterstar's sexuality in the comic books--whether he identifies as asexual or non-heterosexual is still largely unclear. It will be interesting to see how his sexuality is (or isn't) portrayed in the film.
While Tan's role as Shatterstar is still just a rumor, the prospect of Tan in the upcoming X-Force film is certainly exciting. Are you hoping Tan is for sure playing Shatterstar? Let us know in the comments.
