Magician Paul Daniels Dead at 77 Following Brain Tumor

British magician Paul Daniels has died at the age of 77, his publicist has confirmed.

The best-loved star was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor in February and had been seeking treatment at the Royal Berkshire Hospital prior to his death.

According to the Mirror, he left the hospital on Sunday to spend his final days at home with his loved ones including wife and magic assistant Debbie McGee.

Daniels' publicist said: "One of our most beloved entertainers, Paul Daniels, has passed away at the age of 77. The TV star, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier this year, passed away peacefully at home with [wife] Debbie at his side in the early hours of this morning.

"Debbie and the family would like to thank everyone for their support and asks that their privacy be respected at this sad time."

Daniels is best known for his TV magic show on the BBC which ran for 15 years.

Born Newton Edward Daniels, he began his career performing magic in working men's clubs before reaching national attention in the U.K. on TV talent show Opportunity Knocks .

Daniels was taken to hospital by wife McGee in February after losing his balance with his family members suspecting a stroke. He was diagnosed with the tumor by doctors.

Prior to his death Daniels' son from a previous marriage, Martin Daniels, said the TV star turned down radiotherapy for the tumor because it would have little effect on his life span.

Martin, who is also a magician, told the Mirror : "There's no treatment which can help him. Doctor's haven't said how many weeks or months he might have – and we haven't asked.

"It is unbearably difficult. He has said before when 'it's your time it's your time' and that's how he is trying to face up to things."

The magician is survived by his wife Debbie as well as Martin and his brothers Paul and Gary.
