From Def Leppard to Elton John, Here Are Miley Cyrus' Most Powerful Collabs

Miley Cyrus has a voice that just won't quit, and it's turned the singer into a favorite collaboration partner for some of the music industry's all-time greats.

The Hannah Montana alumna appeared onstage earlier this week with 1980s heavy metal Brits Def Leppard to deliver a tribute to late drummer Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters.

"All I've got is a PHOTOGRAPH," Def Leppard wrote in a tweet on Friday, along with video from the performance. "Thanks for rocking with us to honor Taylor Hawkins, Miley," followed by the Sign of the Horns emoji.

Fans and fellow musicians alike have mourned Hawkins, who on March 25 was found dead at age 50 in his Bogotá, Colombia, hotel room while the Foo Fighters were touring South America.

Cyrus and Hawkins were friends in the years leading up to his death. The singer revealed on social media this week that Hawkins had once encouraged her to cover Def Leppard's 1983 single "Photograph."

That led to Cyrus and Def Leppard joining forces in Los Angeles on Tuesday during a star-fueled tribute to Hawkins.

The day after the performance, Cyrus tweeted a voicemail that she'd received from Hawkins, who apparently once used to live in her neighborhood.

"What up Miley? It's Taylor. I heard you're movin'. Wah!" Hawkins can be heard saying in the recording. "I'm listening to 'Photograph' by Def Leppard. You could kill that one."

And she did, by all accounts.

Cyrus has slayed onstage with other music legends, too. Here are a few standouts.

"Nothing Else Matters" with Metallica

Thrash metal pioneers Metallica teamed up with Cyrus for a live version of the band's early 1990s single, "Nothing Else Matters." The actress-singer nailed the cover, which was performed in 2021 on The Howard Stern Show.

"Jolene" with Dolly Parton

It takes real talent to go toe-to-toe with country icon Dolly Parton, but Cyrus can hold her own. In this video taken at a 2010 Hallmark event, the two Tennessee natives delivered a rapturous duet of Parton's classic cut, "Jolene."

"Rebel Yell" with Billy Idol

Cyrus strutted her stuff alongside pop-punk O.G. Billy Idol at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas in 2016. The duo sang one of Idol's most famous hits, "Rebel Yell," and you better believe that both stars also dressed the part, clad in black from head to toe.

"Tiny Dancer" with Elton John

No matter what genre, Cyrus always understands the assignment. In 2018, she also sang alongside glam rock god Elton John for a divine version of his eminently catchy 1971 smash, "Tiny Dancer."

Newsweek reached out to a representative of Cyrus for comment.
