'Destiny 2' Updated Roadmap Delays Mods 2.0 Features to May

Destiny 2 fans can check out the game's latest development roadmap courtesy of a new blog post from Bungie. In addition to revealing the Weekly Crucible Playlists through May 1, we've also learned that reworked Heroic Strike Modifiers have been delayed again.

"Late in development, our team discovered a major issue impacting Heroic Strike Modifiers," Game Director Christopher Barrett said. "Changing the design to fix the issue meant pushing Heroic Modifiers out to 1.2.0, but we will be able to use the extra time to add more variety than was in the original plan." Heroic Strike Modifiers, known in the Destiny 2 community as Mods 2.0, were expected to debut with the 1.1.4 patch next week. As for 1.2.0, Bungie says we'll learn more about that update in April.

Beyond showcasing the road ahead in terms of features, Barrett also announced that Bungie will now share Destiny 2's Weekly Crucible Playlist rotation publicly. Here's a look at what's on the books through the next Iron Banner in May. Based on these dates, you can expect a big uptick in PvP play when Rumble returns April 17.

  • Apr 3: Mayhem
  • Apr 10: Iron Banner
  • Apr 17: Rumble
  • Apr 24: Mayhem
  • May 1: Iron Banner

As disappointing as the delay for the mods rework might be, this isn't the first time it's happened. Mods 2.0 was first mentioned in the beginning of January and initially set for a full release the following month. Now, the feature set will be three months removed from its original target. That being said, the adjustments being made do sound significant. When the concept was revealed, Bungie described Mods 2.0 as a push to reduce redundant weapon and armor mods to make them truly matter.

Now that delays have added more variety than originally planned, the community has already begun speculating as to what that might mean. Will perks be truly swappable and will they rely less on random rolls of the same advantages? Remaining community members sure hope that's the case.

Until 1.2.0 arrives, fans will have to focus on the PvP-based changes due in 1.1.4. Upcoming tweaks include the debut of a 6v6 Iron Banner, penalties for Crucible quitters and a total rework of Crucible ammo and gameplay options.

Destiny 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The 1.1.4 update will debut March 27.
