Did Selena Gomez Respond to Justin Bieber's Engagement? Singer Spotted on NYC Yacht With Friends

Singer Selena Gomez is seemingly unfazed by ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber's sudden engagement to model Hailey Baldwin. Gomez was all smiles Sunday during a yacht trip around New York City with friends.

It was announced Sunday that Bieber, 24, and Baldwin, 21, were engaged after the "Sorry" crooner popped the question while dining in the Bahamas Saturday. The couple had resumed their on-and-off-again relationship in May, two months after Bieber parted ways with Gomez.

Gomez, 25, officially dated Bieber from 2010 to 2012. Despite calling it quits, the pair rekindled their relationship multiple times before severing ties for good in March of this year. The "Back To You" songstress, who's been promoting Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation as of late, was featured in several social media posts enjoying a boat cruise with friends along NYC's Hudson River at the weekend. Theresa Mingus, the Disney alum's assistant, shared an Instagram photo of the duo relaxing in lounge chairs Sunday. With Gomez's seemingly happy state amid Bieber and Baldwin's engagement, fans made #SelenaIsFreeParty trend on Twitter.

Bieber and Baldwin haven't confirmed their engagement, but a fan tweeted a picture of their pal encountering the couple in the Bahamas. Baldwin was seen wearing a massive ring. Bieber's father, Jeremy Bieber, seemingly celebrated his son's news. "Proud is an understatement," the singer's father wrote via Instagram Sunday. "Excited for the next chapter!" Baldwin's father, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas star Stephen, offered a response in a since-deleted post, writing: "Sweet smile on my face! me&wife (Kennya) Always pray 4 Gods will!! He is moving in hearts of JB&HB."

Bieber and Baldwin's engagement follows Ariana Grande's planned nuptials with Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson. Grande and Davidson, both 24, became engaged three weeks after announcing their relationship. The "No Tears Left To Cry" songstress, who has received criticism for her whirlwind romance, defended Bieber's proposal alongside her own following a fan's critique.

"You do realize we are human being who love and have lives… right? And that Scooter is a wonderful human being too who cares first n foremost [about] our health and happiness?" Grande wrote in a since-deleted tweet Sunday, according to People. "Love is lit. S—t happens. I hope to god it happens to you too. U deserve it."

These engagements aren't the only examples of young celebrities heading to the altar. Before settling down with Jason Sudeikis, actress Olivia Wilde married Italian prince and filmmaker Tao Ruspoli at 19—a marriage she claimed "stunted" her. Reese Witherspoon married her Cruel Intentions castmate Ryan Phillippe at 23, later citing being "ridiculously young" as a reason for their 2007 divorce.

Marrying young was once a common practice, with the 2007 U.S. Census Bureau survey showing the median age for marriage was 25.1 years for women and 26.8 years men in 1970, according to ABC News. This has changed, however, due to people—mainly men—remaining single longer. A 2017 U.S. Census Bureau survey listing the average age reached a record high of 27.4 years for women and 29.5 years for men.
