Discovery+ is the latest entrant in the so-called "streaming wars," featuring more than 50,000 episodes from across HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, OWN, Animal Planet, A&E and Discovery itself. After launching in 2019 in Europe, the streamer is now available in the U.S. across multiple platforms, including Amazon Fire and Roku. Verizon subscribers, meanwhile, are able to get a year of Discovery+ for free thanks to a new deal.

What is Discovery+?

The streaming service bills itself as, "the definitive non-fiction, real life subscription streaming service...Discovery+ will have the largest-ever content offering of any new streaming service, featuring a wide range of exclusive, original series across popular, passion verticals in which Discovery brands have a strong leadership position, including lifestyle and relationships; home and food; true crime; paranormal; adventure and natural history; as well as science, tech and the environment, and a slate of high-quality documentaries."

The streamer is launching with a catalog of 2,500 current and classic shows from across the Discovery brand of cable networks, as well as shows from A&E, History and Lifetime.

Leading the streamer will be the many 90 Day Fiancé shows, including three new spin-offs that will be exclusive to the series – 90 Day Bares All, billing itself as the "too-hot-for-TV" version of the show, 90 Day Diaries, in which the couples film themselves, and 90 Day Journey, which brings together every moment of fan favorite couples in one place.

Other original content set for 2021 include Long Island Medium: There in Spirit, Luda Can't Cook starring Ludacris, Amy Schumer Learns to Cook: Uncensored and topiary competition show Clipped starring Martha Stewart.

Other shows appearing on the streamer include A&E network shows like The First 48, Bring It, Dance Moms, Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, Ancient Aliens, Storage Wars, 60 Days In, Intervention and Ghost Hunters, as well as BBC David Attenborough content like The Mating Game, Planet Earth and Blue Planet.

How much does Discovery+ cost?

The streamer is offering two different tiers for users – a $4.99 a month tier, which includes all the content with ads, and a $6.99 a month tier, which is an ad-free version. For this cost, users can have five user profiles and four streams at once.

Does Discovery+ have a free trial?

Yes. U.S. subscribers can get seven days of Discovery+ for free.

What is the Discovery+ Verizon deal?

Selected Verizon users can get either a year or six months of Discovery+ completely for free. According to the Verizon site, subscribers can get the streamer for free, "when you have one line on Play More or Get More Unlimited." Those with Verizon Unlimited plan, Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, Above Unlimited, Do More Unlimited, and Start Unlimited, meanwhile, can get six months for free.

New Fios and 5G home internet customers can sign up for the deal on the Verizon website, as can new and existing customers with eligible Unlimited phone plans.
