Videos Show Dragon Engulfed in Flames As Fire Breaks Out at Disneyland

Videos on social media show the moment an animatronic dragon burst into flames at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

The fire broke out near the end of the second showing of Fantasmic! on Saturday night. The show takes place twice every night, beginning at 9 p.m. and 10.30 p.m.

"During the final showing of Fantasmic at Disneyland park on Saturday evening, the dragon caught fire. Anaheim Fire & Rescue quickly responded and the fire was extinguished," a Disneyland official told KTLA.

The official said all cast members were safely evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island, where the show is staged.

"Due to smoke and wind, attractions near the island were safely cleared of any guests, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time."

The Anaheim Fire Department said no injuries were reported, KABC reported.

Videos captured by visitors to the theme park show a fire breaking out in the 45-foot-tall dragon's face, before spreading to the rest of its body.

A voice on a loudspeaker is heard informing people that "due to unforeseen circumstances, this performance of Fantasmic! cannot continue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope you enjoy the rest of your evening here at Disneyland."

"Disneyland's Fantasmic show got canceled near the end. The dragon's head caught on fire as everyone ran away through the nearest exits," one person tweeted alongside a clip.

Ryan Laux, a video producer and an annual season passholder who was watching he show near Tom Sawyer stand when the fire broke out, estimated that about 1,000 people had packed into the area to watch the show.

"It was a big giant fireball. Then they began pushing people out," he told the Los Angeles Times.

"It was shocking. The crowd was in a standstill. People are packed in like sardines," he added.

Elaine Gilmer, who was at the park with her daughter, told ABC News: "We saw some small explosions coming out of the head, and then, all of a sudden, the whole dragon was just engulfed, and then, all of a sudden, the worker started coming around escorting everybody out for safety."

Disneyland's website describes Fantasmic! as a spectacular live show with special effects and pyrotechnics where "daring heroes and epic villains do battle on a grand scale." Its climax features Mickey Mouse fighting Maleficent in the form of a fire-breathing dragon.
