Doctors Are Being Fired After Pro-Hamas Posts

A prominent watchdog group has been calling attention to doctors who have posted messages in support of Hamas, and several of those doctors have since reportedly been fired.

StopAntisemitism, an American nonprofit watchdog organization, began resharing alleged pro-Hamas posts from doctors following the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

That surprise attack last month resulted in Israel responding by firing airstrikes on Gaza. As of Thursday, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that more than 10,800 people had been killed in Gaza, according to The Associated Press, while at least 1,400 people in Israel have been killed.

Following Israel's response to the Hamas attack, protests have taken place throughout the world in support for Israel or for Palestinians, and social media has been flooded with users taking sides.

StopAntisemitism's messages regarding doctors have not been mentioning those who have expressed pro-Palestinian sentiment, but rather those who have seemingly spoken out specifically in support of Hamas.

"It's startling how many doctors out there are unabashedly supporting Hamas," StopAntisemitism told Newsweek in an emailed statement. "This makes a mockery of the Hippocratic Oath, which is not compatible with supporting terror groups."

The doctors cited by StopAntisemitism include physicians working for institutions across the United States, including such large hospitals as NYU Langone Health and Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute, as well as doctors in well-known health facilities in the United Kingdom.

Newsweek could not independently verify the cause for the doctors' reported terminations. The Association of American Physicians was also contacted via email for comment.

One doctor documented by StopAntisemitism allegedly shared a photo from the film version of Oklahoma! after the Hamas attack on social media and quoted song lyrics from the musical in the caption: "Oh what a beautiful morninggg/oh what a beautiful dayyy!"

After sharing the doctor's post on October 18, StopAntisemitism reported last week that she had been terminated from her job.

Another doctor was reportedly let go from a hospital after StopAntisemitism shared an Instagram post he made allegedly calling the October 7 Hamas attack a "liberation. Decolonization. Resistance. Revolution."

StopAntisemitism reported one doctor was fired after allegedly praising those who participated in the Hamas attack. The doctor's post allegedly made reference to hang gliders, which were reportedly used by Hamas on October 7 to breach Israel's security.

"They got walls, we got gliders. Glory to all resistance fighters," the doctor allegedly wrote.

A radiologist was similarly fired, according to StopAntisemitism, for posting messages on X (formerly Twitter) after the Hamas attack, saying, "The only thing Zionists are Superior at are lies, deceit and genocide" and "Zionists are [genocidal], demonic, greedy..."

StopAntisemitism also shared details about an instance of a doctor being fired following the attacks for making antisemitic remarks in German, while a person later identified as a doctor was reportedly terminated from their hospital position for tearing down posters hanging near a shopping center of Israeli children being held hostage by Hamas.
