Dog On Highway Dubbed 'Guardian Angel' After He Mysteriously Vanishes

Footage of a dog mysteriously disappearing by the side of a road is giving TikTok users the creeps.

In a clip shared on September 9, user Travis Bishop (@travis.1783) can be seen petting a dog he found on the side of the highway during a ride on his motorcycle. However, after turning away for a few moments, the dog disappeared, spooking Travis.

Since being posted, the post has received over 11 million views and over 26,000 shares from users convinced Travis had experienced a "supernatural" sighting.

How many people believe in ghosts?

A 2021 poll conducted by Ipsos found that a roughly third of Americans believe in ghosts.

Of the 1,014 people surveyed, 36 percent believed ghosts exist. However, more people believed in UFOs, with 39 percent convinced we're not alone in the universe.

While women were more likely to believe in spirits (41 percent of women compared to 32 percent of men), men were more likely to find UFOs credible (43 percent to 35 percent). Women were also more inclined to believe in witchcraft and spells (26 percent vs 15 percent of men), and also tended to celebrate Halloween more often than men (67 percent to 55 percent).

Twenty-four percent of participants said they'd had a spiritual encounter, whether seeing a ghost or feeling its presence, while 10 percent of Americans reported seeing a UFO.

'Where'd you go little dude?'

In the video, Travis—still in his helmet and riding gear—can be seen cuddling up to the dog, who seems to be enjoying the attention. The pair are on a rural highway, surrounded by brush and desert.

"Who's a good boy?" he asks the dog, who wags its tail happily.

"It's dangerous out here, man, you're on a blind corner," Travis says, as he stands up to show viewers the road. When he turns back around, the dog has vanished.

"Where'd you go little dude?" he says, sounding confused.

"What the hell? He's gone."

Travis then pans the camera around the area to show the dog is nowhere to be seen.

Travis gave further details in the caption, writing: "So, I come around a blind corner to find this little guy in the middle of the road. I was gonna take him elsewhere, but look what happens next."

Newsweek has reached out to Travis Bishop for comment.

Fellow TikTok users were just as confused as Travis, with Julian seine commenting: "I don't believe in the supernatural, but this video sure does make me question myself."

"I thought this was going to be a rescue video but by the end, I'm baffled," wrote Puncakes24. "Normally you would hear the dog run away but nah he vanished."

"Like even if he SPRINTED away you would've seen and heard him," said hales. "Mind blown."

Later, Travis added an update in the comments. There was a wreck "just off the highway" Travis was heading towards when he encountered the dog, so he took a different course "out of superstition."

"Coulda been me," he said.

After reading the update, many users were convinced the biker had encountered a "guardian angel."

"I heard stories of guardian angels but never actually seen one," said Cactus Guy. "You are blessed."

"You had an angel distract you from your current course," agreed Harlee Devine.

Others had more sinister suggestions, with user etar proposing that the dog was a "sign of death."

"This is common with truckers, it's a sign death was near or gonna happen," they wrote.

Anime.fun believed it was a ghost, commenting: "Aww what if it was a passed away dog coming to get one last rub."

"Talking to it might have helped it cross over," suggested waltzingcorpse.

While Jess said: "He just had to keep you occupied long enough to keep you safe from what was ahead... Drive safe and always tell family and friends you love them!"
