Dog Loses It After What He Spots in His Food Bowl: 'Someone Is Here'

A dog called Piper has delighted the internet after a video of her refusing to eat from her bowl because she saw a dog in it went viral all over social media.

In a hilarious post shared on TikTok earlier on Wednesday under the username davvvisss, Piper can be seen eating dry food from her bowl when, all of a sudden, she stops eating after seeing a reflection in it.

Thinking it's another dog trying to steal her food, she starts barking incessantly, as her mom tries to tell her that she has to finish her food because her medicine is in there. The pet parent can be heard saying: "Don't look at yourself! No!"

The viral video was shared along with a caption that reads: "Day 2 Piper vs her reflection in her food bowl." This is followed by: "I'm going to be an incredible mother don't you think."

The poster told Newsweek that the 5-year-old Pitsky rescue is the "sweetest" dog, and that unfortunately, she suffers from anxiety from all the times they've had to move homes.

"She is a big scaredy cat (as you saw) and her reflection has always been her enemy, especially our mirrored closet doors haha! When she runs she hops like a bunny, and she tries to catch flies in her mouth when she sunbathes outside. She is the most entertaining dog I've ever had and truly has a personality of her own," the poster said.

While dogs can indeed see their reflection, they lack the ability to recognize themselves in it.

Pet wellness site Pet Keen states that most dogs will think another dog is staring back at them. Once they understand there's no way to interact with them, they lose interest.

However, while dogs can't recognize their face in a reflection, lots of other animals have passed the "mirror test," including apes, dolphins, and even magpies.
