Dog Can't Get Enough of Window Views During First Flight, Melts Hearts

A video of a dog on a plane determined to enjoy his window-seat view has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was posted by @mr.blue.dog and has received more than 2 million views since it was shared on March 28. A caption with the post reads: "Blue's first plane ride with his dad."

A later comment from the poster says the video was captured on an American Airlines flight and the pup on the plane is a service dog. Airlines are required to "recognize dogs as service animals and accept them for transport on flights to, within and from the United States," notes the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

The American Airlines website says that a service animal is defined as "a dog that's individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability" and "fully-trained service dogs may fly in the cabin at no charge if they meet the requirements."

A voice in the latest video says, "OK, Blue, we have to close the window, sorry," as a hand brings the window shade down. The pup quickly pushes it halfway back up with his nose.

Laughter continues in the background before the voice later says: "You're so smart. I didn't know you were that smart..." A hand is shown caressing the dog's head as the pup continues to look out the window before the clip ends.

While it may have been annoying for the dog owner in the video to keep having to pull down the shade, allowing the pup to look out the window, as opposed to staring at a blank white shade, may have its benefits due to the visual stimulation.

A January 2023 study in Animal Welfare, which looked at the influence of five types of visual stimulation on the behavior of kenneled dogs, found that these "encouraged significantly less vocalization and movement" than a condition of no visual stimulation.

'I Paid for the Window Seat'

The canine's playful antics on the plane in the viral clip have melted the hearts of users on TikTok.

Sullivan2319 wrote that the dog must have been saying: "Excuse me! I paid for the window seat and I want the shade up!"

VeeCee43 posted: "Sir he paid for a window seat and a window seat he shall have."

"I love that he puts it up higher the second time—'knock it off, dad!!!'" commented lindalee433.
