Dog in Shelter for 6 Years Savors 'Favorite' Part of Each Day in the Grass

A shelter dog living in Spain savors his favorite time of the day, grazing the field outside, but what he truly longs for is a home to call forever.

Meet Amigo, the long-term resident of Triple A Marbella-San Pedro. This dog was brought into the shelter nearly six years ago. But as most know, an animal shelter is no place for a dog to live out their days and six years is far too long to be in the confines of a kennel.

Every day, Amigo waits for his future family to adopt him and the only part that brings him joy is his "favorite moment" of the day: walking through the grass.

The February 19 TikTok video posted to the account @gentlepawsrescue shows Amigo attempting to find the silver lining in his situation, soaking up every last inch of the sunshine, and wishing one day soon he could do it for hours.

Every time Amigo is outside, he walks as slowly as he can with his head down. He's trying to savor every moment and extend his time outside as long as he can, which is actually shattering the hearts of viewers. People want Amigo to experience the outdoors for good in a loving home.

The clip had over 30,100 views, 7,187 likes and 806 comments. Yet, the power of social media has not kicked in and the search for Amigo's forever home continues.

"I hope he finds an amazing and loving forever home so soon. The world is unfair," said one viewer.

Someone else commented: "He's so cute. He deserves to slow walk through grass all day every day."

Another added: "He knows how to enjoy the beauty in life and really take it in. Perfect meditation and manifesting buddy."

Each year, 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared to January 2022, the 24Pet "Shelter Watch Report" found.

Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.

Triple A is caring for over 600 homeless dogs and cats, TikTok user @gentlepawsrescue told Newsweek. And like many shelters around the world, Triple A is desperate for more adoption families.
