Dog Teaching Brother How to Stay Safe on Escalator Melts Hearts

A video of a dog "gracefully" showing his canine sister what to do on an escalator has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was posted by @pickyprince.haku and has had more than 744,000 views since it was shared on May 6. The footage shows a pair of white-haired dogs each being held separately in the arms of two people on an escalator. According to a later comment from the poster, the video was captured in a metro station in Paris, the French capital.

A message overlaid on the video reads: "When your brother shows you how to stay safe at the escalator."

The pup further up on the escalator, who is wearing a muzzle, is shown placing his paw on the handrail, as a note across the screen reads: "hold it like this sis."

Another message across the clip says "*observing carefully*" before the other dog places her paw on the handrail in the same manner, as a subsequent note says, "Oke bro *learned from a pro*."

A caption shared with the post reads: "she learned from THE BEST."

The ages of the dog siblings in the viral clip are unknown, but age could have played a role in the sister's ability to follow her brother's moves.

A February 2016 study published in the Age journal found that dogs over age 13 displayed "slower learning and reduced flexibility in comparison to younger dogs."

The seemingly close bond between the two canines comes as no surprise because "dogs can form relationships of comparable qualities with both humans and other dogs," noted a March 2019 study published in Scientific Reports.

Stanley Coren is a professor emeritus in the department of psychology at the University of British Columbia and author of several books about dogs. In a February 2013 article for Psychology Today, Coren explained that "although dogs are happiest when they are in a social situation, the species that they are interacting with is less important than the quality of the interactions."

According to Coren: "Dogs that have been properly socialized will congenially approach virtually anything that is alive, regardless of its species, and, unless they receive hostile signals, they will attempt to establish a good-natured relationship."
