Dog Wakes Up From Anesthesia, Does the Unthinkable 20 Minutes Later

Dog owners try their best to keep their pets as healthy as possible, but there might come a time when their canine has to undergo surgery, which can be paired with anesthesia.

It is common for dogs to feel slightly uneasy following a procedure with this treatment. The side effects might include changes in appetite or drinking, drooling, acting weird or clingy, restlessness, confusion, crying, and stumbling. These could last up to 24 hours, according to NPHQ Veterinarian.

But one pup, called Skip, was back to what dogs are known best for just 20 minutes after her procedure—the Labrador mix sat down in front of her owner and begged for a nibble of his pizza.

Skip had eaten part of some pajama pants and had an emergency endoscopy. The owner, known on Reddit as riccarjo, shared in a Reddit comment on February 26 that the dog was taken in at about 6:30 p.m. and didn't get out of the procedure until 12:30 a.m.

The owner hadn't had time to eat and grabbed some food at a pizza place nearby—and one sniff of it clearly made Skip hungry too, despite still being disoriented from the anesthesia.

It's difficult enough to say no to your dog's begging, especially after it's been through a procedure, but the owner told Newsweek that they stayed strong.

"I didn't give in! We don't give her 'people food' except for special occasions, and she normally needs to do a trick for it," he explained.

Vets had to induce vomiting to get the piece of pants out of Skip's stomach, but they could still see something in there on an X-ray afterwards. Thankfully it was just some kibble and a leaf from the park.

"She's a bit of a vacuum," her owner added.

The photo of Skip begging had over 33,000 likes and 470 comments as of Wednesday. People were amused that not even the side effects of anesthesia could stop a dog from begging for human food.

"Dogs only know how to eat and love," said one user.

Another wrote what the dog was thinking: "I don't know where I am, who you are, or who I am, but DAMN that smells good!"

The good news is that Skip is perfectly fine now.

"Was a bit disoriented the night of, so I stayed up with her to keep an eye on her, but since then she's back to her normal self," the owner said.
