Video of Dogs Seeing Owner After 18 Months Away Has Viewers 'Sobbing'

Footage of a woman surprising her two dogs after being away for 18 months has got people welling up on social media.

Sarah Keogh shared the clip of the emotional reunion with her beloved pet pooches, following a year and a half in Australia, in a video posted to TikTok.

At the time of writing, the footage has been viewed 360,000 times, adding further weight to the old adage that "absence makes the heart grow fonder."

The science certainly appears to back up that assertion. In a 2011 study published in the journal Applied Animal Behavior Science, 12 dogs with no history of separation-related behavior issues were filmed on three different occasions when left alone at home.

Researchers found the dogs greeted their owners with more intensity and demonstrated a higher frequency of physical activity and attentive behavior after being left alone for two hours, compared to when they spent 30 minutes on their own.

Keogh's video is further proof of the phenomenon, with her two canine companions reacting excitedly to seeing their human friend again after so long.

In the video, one of the dogs can be seen waiting outside the room patiently before being ushered in to see their "surprise."

Dashing into the room, the dog charges towards Keogh, jumping up, almost as if they are trying to hug them, before proceeding to bounce around the room, running in circles and jumping all over the two couches after realizing their friend is back.

The dog's energized reaction is only matched by that of Keogh's second dog, who bounds into the room soon after, jumping up to give her an affectionate kiss before proceeding to spin around the room in a similar state of frenzy to their fellow pooch friend.

Keogh, for her part, appears overjoyed to see her two dog friends, even if their reaction is boisterous to say the least.

It all makes for heartwarming viewing with the emotion of this happy reunion clearly not lost on those watching along at home, with many flocking to comment on how the clip had them reaching for the tissues.

"Oh this melted me," Emshelx wrote with Awa-Assai commenting: "Oh this is beautiful." Kayleigh Hensey was left "sobbing" at the video with Charlie Stevenson also confessing to "crying" after watching the clip.

Some even wondered how Keogh could have ever parted company with her dogs to begin with. Ginger Spice said: "I honestly could never leave my dogs" while janic2021 echoed those sentiments, writing: "I could never leave my dogs for that long, I worry about them even if I leave them for couple of hours."

Others however simply enjoyed the clip at face value. "What a fabulous reaction," user2972745114716 said. "My son has been away for the summer and is home next week. Our dog has slept on his office chair since he left."

StephButler08 was similarly enraptured, calling the dogs' response simply "the best reaction" Keogh could have hoped for.
