Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, has hit back at Nigel Farage after he attacked her at a Donald Trump rally.
During a speech Thursday night, Clinton said: "Just yesterday, one of Britain's most prominent right-wing leaders, a man named Nigel Farage, who stoked anti-immigrant sentiments to win the referendum, to have Britain leave the European Union, campaigned with Donald Trump in Mississippi.
"Farage has called for a bar on the children of legal immigrants from public schools and health services, has said women—and I quote—are 'worth less than men,' and supports scrapping laws that prevent employers discriminating based on race.
"That's who Donald Trump wants by his side when he's addressing an audience of American voters."
Clinton's comments come after the former UKIP leader all but endorsed Trump at a rally in Jackson, Mississippi, on Wednesday. He told Trump's supporters that he "wouldn't vote for Hillary Clinton if she paid me."
Clinton's speech sought to link Trump to what she called "the rising tide of hardline right-wing nationalism around the world."
She continued a regular strategy of drawing connections between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who she called contemporary right-wing nationalism's "grand godfather."
And she said that Trump was fueling America's "radical fringe" with racist rhetoric.
Trump has support from online ultraconservative writers, activists and trolls—the so-called "alt-right"—and from some white supremacists including former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, who is running to represent Louisiana in the U.S. senate.
Clinton hopes to attract the vast majority of votes from ethnic minority voters, particularly the coalition of black and Mexican citizens who helped deliver victory for Barack Obama. But persuading such voters to turn out will be crucial to her success.
