MAGA Furious at Newsmax Over Donald Trump Coverage

MAGA figures and Donald Trump supporters reacted with anger after Newsmax posted a tweet about a recent speech given by the former president.

In a post that appears to have since been deleted, the conservative broadcaster shared the opening paragraph from a Reuters story about comments the presumptive Republican presidential nominee made about migrants on Tuesday during a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Trump appeared to disparage migrants while speaking about Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was killed, allegedly by a Venezuelan immigrant who entered the country illegally.

"The Democrats say 'please don't call them animals. They're humans,'" Trump said. "I said 'no they're not humans, they're not humans, they're animals.'"

The Reuters paragraph about the speech, reproduced in the Newsmax tweet, said: "Donald Trump called immigrants in the United States illegally 'animals' and 'not human' in a speech in Michigan, resorting to the degrading rhetoric he has employed time and again on the campaign trail."

Although it has been deleted, some users on X, formerly Twitter, preserved the post by screenshotting it.

In response, some MAGA figures reacted with outrage, believing the broadcaster was criticizing Trump.

Newsweek contacted Newsmax by email by website form for comment.

Brenden Dilley, a podcast host and 2018 Arizona congressional candidate wrote: "Newsmax is fake news trash."

Buzz Patterson, a former military aid for the Clinton administration wrote: "Newsmax just Bud Lite'd themselves. Unfollowed, not watching."

A MAGA account called Real Phil Jones wrote: "I knew Newsmax couldn't be trusted. Spreading the same lies as CNN and MSNDNC deliberately misquoting President Trump. Losers!"

During his speech, Trump also slammed President Joe Biden for his policies on illegal immigration, saying they will cause Social Security and Medicare to "collapse."

"One of the most important issues in this race is how Biden's border invasion is going to obliterate Medicare and Social Security for American seniors," he said to a packed hall of supporters ahead of the Wisconsin presidential primary, which he won with almost 80 percent of the vote, according to preliminary reports.

"What he's doing by allowing 15 million, 20 million people this year, [is] destroying your Social Security, he's destroying your Medicare, and many thing [sic] else. He's destroying your way of life."

Trump's speech also came as he appeared in the state for a Republican primary. There, he won 78.9 percent of the vote share while Haley, the former South Carolina governor, garnered 12.8 percent of the vote and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis 3.3 percent of the vote, according to NBC News.
