Donald Trump To Propose Ending Shutdown On Saturday

President Donald Trump will address the nation Saturday afternoon with an apparent proposal to Democrat leaders that could end the longest government shutdown in American history. Then again, neither side could blink in this latest feud between top Republicans and Democrats.

The president will make an announcement from the White House at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, and little was publicly stated about his proposed address other than the ongoing 29-day partial government shutdown.

CNN reported Friday night that a White House official told them Trump would "put something on the table to get Democrats to engage with negotiations," according to the report.

This doesn't mean Trump will waiver from his wish of a border wall worth $5.7 billion, or that Democrats will cave to the president's demands.

In all, it could be another stonewalled-stalemate between Republicans and Democrats, and more talking points for each side to kick the can down the road a little bit more in the border wall debate.

Earlier on Friday, the president sent a statement that said the Republicans would see "No "Cave" on the issue of Border and National Security. A beautiful thing to see, especially when you hear the new rhetoric spewing from the mouths of the Democrats who talk Open Border, High Taxes and Crime. Stop Criminals & Drugs now!"

The president gave very few details about his Saturday address, other than "I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M., live from the @WhiteHouse."

Ever since the government went into a partial shutdown on Dec. 22, about 800,000 federal employees have either been furloughed or forced to work without pay during the shutdown.

The president canceled a trip with him and his close staff to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland "out of consideration" for the 800,000 federal employees who have either been furloughed or forced to work without pay during the shutdown.

And on Thursday, the White House abruptly postponed a trip for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress to Afghanistan to visit American troops.

"We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate," Trump wrote. "I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown."

This move by the president came a day after Speaker Pelosi requested Trump to delay his annual State of the Union Address because of the shutdown, meaning a stalemate could continue well beyond the president's announcement on Saturday.
