Donald Trump Ridicules Amy Klobuchar For Launching Presidential Campaign in Wintry Minnesota: She 'Looked Like a Snowman'

President Donald Trump mocked Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) over the weekend for launching her 2020 presidential bid while looking "like a snowman" in snowy Minnesota.

"Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures," Trump tweeted on Sunday. "Bad timing. By the end of her speech she looked like a Snowman(woman)!"

Klobuchar fired back at the president later that evening. "Science is on my side, @realDonaldTrump," she tweeted. "Looking forward to debating you about climate change (and many other issues). And I wonder how your hair would fare in a blizzard?"

Trump's comments came hours after Klobuchar officially entered the race for the Democratic presidential nomination in Minneapolis on a snow-covered stage along the Mississippi River.

During her speech, the third-term senator declared that she will "focus on getting things done" and vowed to reverse some of the president's signature policies, such as rejoining the Paris Climate Accord "on day one" of her term — the agreement Trump's administration pulled out of in 2017.

"For too long, leaders in Washington have sat on the sidelines while others try to figure out what to do about our changing economy and its impact on our lives, what to do about the disruptive nature of new technologies, income inequality, the political and geographic divides, the changing climate, the tumult in our world," she said.

"Let's stop seeing those obstacles as obstacles on our path," Klobuchar continued. "Let's see those obstacles as our path."

Although Klobuchar didn't name Trump directly, she did argue that Americans deserved more than "foreign policy by tweet."

"Our sense of community is fracturing across our nation, worn down by the petty and vicious nature of our politics," she added. "We are tired of the shutdowns and the showdowns, of the gridlock and the grandstanding. Today, on this snowy island, we say enough is enough."

Trump has suggested several times in recent months that the frosty temperatures some Americans are currently experiencing disproves global warming. Last month, the president joked that global warming could help with the "tremendous amounts of snow and near record setting cold."

"Be careful and try staying in your house. Large parts of the Country are suffering from tremendous amounts of snow and near record setting cold," the president tweeted. "Amazing how big this system is. Wouldn't be bad to have a little of that good old fashioned Global Warming right now!"
