Donald Trump Musical Gets Trashed—'So So Bad'

A new musical that makes fun of Donald Trump and sees his ex-wives, current wife, and daughter take the spotlight is being brutally slammed online.

Five: The Parody Musical debuted off-Broadway on Monday and focuses on a number of the women in the former president and GOP frontrunner's life. These are Ivana Trump, Marla Maples, Ivanka Trump, Melania Trump and Stormy Daniels, the former adult film actress at the center of his hush-money trial. The musical is a take on Six, the production about Henry VIII's wives.

X user (formerly Twitter) @MarioNawfal took to the social media platform on February 20 to share an outtake of the show.

"'FIVE' is a musical parody about the women in Trump's life, Ivana, Marla, Melania, Stormy, and Ivanka. Michael Cohen, the former Trump lawyer, was at the Press Premier Off-Broadway at Theater 555," he wrote alongside photos of Cohen with the cast.

Donald Trump has been accused of arranging for Cohen to give Daniels $130,000 as hush money during his 2016 presidential campaign. The Republican denies any wrongdoing and has said the trial is part of a political witch hunt aimed at derailing his White House bid.

After clips of the show circulated online, people expressed how unimpressed they were.

Newsweek contacted a representative for Donald Trump via email Friday for comment.

"I don't like the guy much but wow this is so so bad" one person wrote.

"Oh no a bunch of out of touch NY snobs making fun of Donald Trump. How will he ever recover?" said another.

"A Donald Trump Musical called 'Five: The Parody Musical' While I'm into musicals, I still have to ask myself, why?" someone else asked alongside various eye-rolling emojis.

A fourth added: "That is the definition of Cringe."

Not everyone has been left unimpressed, however, as some people shared how amused they were by the musical.

"This is hilarious," one X user wrote alongside a laugh-crying emoji.

Another person added: "Hahahaha it is funny."

"Don't usually pay attention to these types of things but it does sound like a great time," someone else said.

The negative comments haven't affected Michael Chase Gosselin, the executive producer of Five.

"This is what makes this country so terrific... Americans can come see Five: The Parody Musical and decide for themselves," he told Newsweek. "I am happy to report that Five seems to have won the popular vote with audiences.

"As a matter of fact, Five has been playing for only one week, and yet, it is already playing to sold out crowds and standing ovations nightly. So if you're in New York, grab a ticket (if you can get one) and see what all the fuss is about."

From 1977 to 1990, Trump was wed to the late Ivana Trump. They had three kids together, one of whom is Ivanka Trump. Marla Maples and Donald Trump were married from 1993 to 1999. In 2005, he married Melania Trump, his present wife.

Daniels alleges that she had an affair with Donald Trump back in 2006, a year after he married Melania Trump.

Cohen acted as master of ceremonies at a press preview for the musical and told The New York Times that he thought it was "clever and funny." He explained that he had been contacted by the show's publicity team, who wanted him to read the script and, "if I liked it, would I be willing to host the press conference."

Five is written by Shimmy Braun and Moshiel Newman Daphna, with music and lyrics by Billy Recc. Jen Wineman oversees direction and choreography. Cast members include Anyae Anasia, Gabriella Joy Rodriguez, Jaime Lyn Beatty, Gabi Garcia and Hannah Bonnett. Drag performer Jasmine Rice LaBeija features as Hillary Clinton, who Donald Trump defeated in 2016's presidential election.
