More episodes of Dragon Ball Super are reportedly on the way, if a story on Toei Animation from a trade show is to be believed.
According to a spotlight article from World Screen, who was covering the National Association of Television Program Executives or NATPE, the report states the media group is bringing more episodes of Dragon Ball Super. The spotlight included the following:
"The company is also making more episodes of Dragon Ball Super, a Japanese fantasy martial arts action series in the Dragon Ball media franchise that follows Goku in the aftermath of Majin Buu's defeat and as God of Destruction Beerus awakens."
Toei Animation told Anime News Network that the report "is not true at this moment."
NATPE is a licensing convention where companies show off their IPs and brands to sell to investors. Toei Animation could be leveraging the popularity of Dragon Ball Super to get deals for television, toys and more.
Dragon Ball Super completed its original Japanese run after 131 episodes back in March 2018. The English dub of the anime is still running weekly on Toonami's block of programming.
The franchise was so popular and made so much money for Toei Animation, a department that deals strictly with the Dragon Ball property was created shortly after the series' ended.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly recently released in North America and has made more than $88 million dollars at the box office at the time of this writing. It's the 20th film in the franchise, but has broken records included setting a new opening day record for Funimation Films, making more than $7 million. The previous record was $1.97 million by Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F in 2015.
The ending of Dragon Ball Super: Broly leaves the series open for a return, and the manga has introduced a new threat to the Z-Fighters and the multiverse so there's plenty of source material to continue the anime. Fans can read the Dragon Ball Super manga on Shonen Jump.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly can be seen in theaters now. The English dub of Dragon Ball Super series can be seen weekly on Toonami's block of programming every Saturday or on streaming services like FunimationNow and Crunchyroll.
