Drew Barrymore Holds 'I Love Jake Gyllenhaal' Sign to Combat Misleading Headlines

Drew Barrymore made her feelings for Jake Gyllenhaal very clear at the Season 2 premiere of Santa Clarita Diet in Los Angeles on Thursday night. The 43-year-old actress walked the red carpet for her Netflix series in a flowing red dress, a chunky bracelet, dangling earrings—and a hand-painted picket sign that read "I [heart] Jake Gyllenhaal."

Barrymore wanted to set the record straight, because the day before she had been forced by late-night host James Corden to choose her least talented co-star, between Hugh Grant (Music and Lyrics), Adam Sandler (The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Blended) or Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko). Barrymore chose Gyllenhaal—but only because she would have been forced to eat turkey testicle if she hadn't. "When I run into him next time, I'll be like, 'Dude, it was like selling you down the river or eating turkey's balls,'" Barrymore told Corden jokingly. "And by the way, I don't even care if he hates me. I literally am doing this because I just won't make it."

Unfortunately for Barrymore—and as is the point of Corden's "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts" game—this prompted several variations of the "Drew Barrymore Calls Jake Gyllenhaal Her Least Talented Co-Star" headline. So the actor took advantages of the cameras on her at the red carpet to clear up the confusion.

When asked by the Associated Press at the premiere what the deal with the Gyllenhaal sign was, Barrymore explained the whole Corden-nearly-forced-her-turkey-testicles situation. "I woke up to headlines everywhere that I think he's the least talented person I've ever worked with, and I'm like, first of all, in this day and age, this is an interesting headline, really? B, everybody get a life. C, if you see the show, it's the least insulting thing ever!"

Barrymore concluded, "I guess people are just desperate for a headline."

In other headline-making news, the second season Netflix's zombie comedy starring Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, Santa Clarita Diet, is now streaming.
