A Missouri man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after he allegedly entered his neighbor's home, thinking it was his own, and choked the homeowner to death.
Michael Augustine, 43, of Raytown, attempted to enter neighbor Clifton King's home on Friday night, Fox 4 Kansas City reported.
Police say Augustine was drunk as he tried to enter the home, believing it to be his own.
Augustine reportedly called 9/11 to say that that he had an intruder in a chokehold—but when officers arrived at Augustine's address no-one was there.
Police searched the area to find Augustine on top of Clifton King, 60, outside King's residence.
"That's right. I f---ed him up!" Augustine said after officers checked for King's pulse, reported the Kansas City Star.
King did not have a pulse, and was later declared dead in hospital.
According to court documents cited by KPLR11, officers noted that Augustine was incoherent and his breath smelt strongly of alcohol.
A neighbor told Fox 4 that she watched for about an hour as paramedics tried to revive Clifton, a military veteran.
"He served our country and that was not an honorable way to treat him," the woman said. "I think that it's sad. It's sad! Someone had to give up their life because someone was so messed up they didn't know it wasn't their home."
Neighbors told the network that Augustine had posted his $150,000 bond and left the area.
