The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby girl, now the fourth in line to the British throne.
The new princess was safely delivered at 8.34am and weighing 8lbs 3oz, according to a statement from Kensington Palace.
A town crier in traditional dress also announced the news to royal fans waiting for news outside the hospital.
The Duchess was admitted to the Lindo Wing at St Mary's hospital in London earlier this morning, the same hospital that she gave birth to Prince George, who turns two in July.
The Duke of Cambridge was present at the birth, the palace said.
Political party leaders, gearing up for Thursday's general election, tweeted their congratulations.
There will be relief from some in the media that the birth came so quickly after some news anchors objected to being stationed outside the hospital during Prince George's birth in 2013.
