A 5.2 earthquake hit the Philippines on Friday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The quake struck at around 10:40 p.m. local time, hitting Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, at a depth of 111 kilometers, or about 69 miles.
It was unclear whether there were any injuries or significant damage as a result of the earthquake. According to PHIVOLCS, the earthquake was not expected to cause damage, but aftershocks were expected.
A 5.2 magnitude earthquake is described on the Richter Scale as a moderate earthquake, with strong, sudden movements. The scale is organized from 1 to 10, with each order of magnitude 10 times stronger than the previous one.
