Facebook to Introduce Profile Image Videos

Facebook will introduce a new feature that lets users replace profile pictures with seven second video clips, the social network announced on Wednesday. The new feature is part an update to Facebook's mobile experience.

Users will be able to record a seven second clip using their mobile device and then upload in place of a photograph.

Facebook announced the updates with a statement posted to their newsroom. "Today, we're unveiling some new, mobile-friendly features for Facebook profiles. There are three main improvements that will give you more opportunities to express who you are and control the content showcased on your profile."

Alongside the new video feature, users will be able to set a temporary profile picture that upon expiring reverts back to your original image. Another addition announced is the option to pin favorite photographs to the top of a user's feed, a feature not dissimilar to a pinned tweet.

The profile controls have been streamlined and another Twitter-esque addition is the new 100-character bio option. The design changes include a centralised mobile layout, with larger format photographs.

Facebook say that the new features are only available to small number of U.K. and California iPhone users during a testing phase.
