Father Stabbed To Death, Daughter And Her Boyfriend Arrested: Police

A man's daughter and her boyfriend have been arrested after he was found stabbed to death, according to Nebraska police.

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) was alerted at 4:06 p.m. on Monday, October 3, to reports of an unconscious man who had appeared to have been stabbed at an apartment near South 40th Street and Highway 2.

When officers arrived, they found Jesse Gilmer, 70, dead inside the apartment with injuries consistent with having been attacked by someone with "a bladed instrument."

According to Lincoln officials, so far this year there have been four homicides in the city and there were eight in total last year.

An LPD spokesperson said in a statement released on Tuesday that Jesse's 15-year-old daughter was in the home when they arrived.

The statement continued: "Sallie Gilmer, Jesse's daughter, was at the apartment when officers arrived. She reported she came home from school and found her father stabbed."

Sallie was taken to police headquarters where she was interviewed along with other family members.

Her 16-year-old boyfriend was later found, and also taken to the same headquarters where he was questioned.

The statement continued: "With information obtained during interviews, digital evidence and evidence collected at the apartment, both Sallie Gilmer and Isaac Honigschmidt were arrested and placed at the Lancaster County You Services Center.

"We would like to extend our condolences to Jesse's family and friends and ask members of the public to respect their privacy as they grieve the loss of their loved one."

Gilmer was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

Honigschmidt was apprehended for aiding and abetting murder in the first degree, according to police.

Newsweek has contacted the LPD for comment.

According to Statista, there were 61,924 aggravated assaults that involved a knife or other cutting instrument across the U.S. in 2020.

That was still behind handguns, which were involved in 69,423 aggravated assaults that same year.

And this is not the first such incident this year, as in September, a father was shot dead at an engagement party he attended with his wife and children in a Los Angeles suburb.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the 29-year-old victim Edgar Rodrigues was one of the hundreds of guests at the party hosted at a large banquet hall in Northridge.

According to the police, an altercation started inside the venue before it ended outside where the victim was shot.

And in August, a Texas man shot his own son while he tried to stop him from assaulting his mother, according to Houston police.

Police said the 24-year-old man, who was reportedly drunk, returned to his parent's home on Rhodes Road at about 2 a.m.

When he entered the home, he reportedly got into an argument with his mother that then escalated into violence. During the argument, the father tried to stop the assault before he shot his own son in the chest, killing him.
