Video Shows Florida Police Officer Arrest Crying 6-Year-Old Girl For Having School Tantrum: 'Please Let Me Go'

Video has been released showing the moment a 6-year-old girl in Florida was arrested and led away to a police car after throwing a tantrum at her school.

Kaia Rolle's arrest for battery made national news last September after she allegedly kicked one of her teachers at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy in Orlando while they were attempting to calm her down.

More than five months later, body cam footage taken from one of the arresting officers, Dennis Turner, has been released and shared by Kaia's family's attorney to local news sites including Click Orlando and WESH.

During the clip, the girl can be heard sobbing and begging the officers not to place the restraints on her wrists and to "please let me go."

As the child is being led away, she again begs one officer "I don't want to go to the police car" as she is being escorted out of the school building.

The officer with Kaia then tells the 6-year-old "you have to."

Later on in the footage, Officer Turner tells the teachers at the school that the move was necessary and that they would have placed regular handcuffs on her and not zip ties "if she was bigger."

He adds how of the 6,000 people he's arrested in his 28-year career, the youngest person was just 7 years old.

"She's six?" Turner asks after hearing her age. "Now she has broken the record."

Meralyn Kirkland, Kaia's grandmother, said she was unaware that the 6-year-old was as upset as she was until she saw the clip.

"I knew that what they did was wrong, but I never knew she was begging for help," Kirkland told The Herald Mail.

Kirkland also described her outrage at Turner talking about how he had arrested children previously.

"You're discussing traumatizing a 6- and 7-year-old—and that's a boasting right for you?" she said. "These are babies."

Following public outcry, Turner was fired from his job as a school resource officer after it emerged he had also arrested a 6-year-old boy that same day.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that police officials had blocked the booking process for the boy before he made it to the juvenile detention center.

"On behalf of the Orlando Police Department, I apologize to the children involved and their families," Police Chief Orlando Rolon said while announcing Turner's termination. "As a grandfather, I can only imagine how traumatic this was for everyone involved."

Turner was fired for not seeking approval from a supervisor to arrest a minor under the age of 12, as per department policy.

The charges against both 6-year-old children were later dropped, State Attorney Aramis Ayala announced.

"I want this community to know that I hear you. I also want you to know that when it comes to little elementary-aged children, we will not negotiate justice, ever. Today, the healing can start," Ayala said.
