Florida Teenager Arrested After Posting Gun Threat Photo on Social Media

A Florida teenager was arrested at the weekend over a social media post that allegedly threatened a school shooting.

Detectives discovered Corey Anderson had posted photos of himself with what appeared to be a handgun, a rifle, and a tactical style vest after receiving a tip on Sunday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

"Hey Siri, directions to the nearest school," the post was captioned, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said detectives determined the handgun and rifle were "airsoft guns" after further investigation.

Anderson, 18, was located and arrested at a residence in Lutz. He is charged with a written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism.

Anderson's arrest comes days after a deadly massacre at an elementary school in Texas that has put law enforcement across the country on alert to threats targeting schools.

"This type of threat is unacceptable. This man intentionally instilled fear into our community as a sick joke, but be warned, this is no laughing matter," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.

"We will do everything within our power to apprehend, and pursue charges on those who make school-based threats. Protecting students is our greatest priority. We take school threats very seriously, if you see something suspicious, please contact us immediately."

It comes after a gunman, identified as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, opened fire inside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24.

Nineteen children and two teachers were killed in the massacre—the deadliest at a school in the U.S. since 20 children and six adults were gunned down inside Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012.

Ramos reportedly posted about shooting up a school shortly before he went on a rampage in Uvalde.

And in the days since, law enforcement across the country have reported the arrests of multiple suspects for allegedly making threats to carry out school shootings.

On Saturday, a fifth-grade student in Florida was arrested after allegedly threatening a mass shooting in a text message. The Lee County Sheriff's Office said the 10-year-old was charged with making written threats of a mass shooting.

Also on Saturday, police in Virginia arrested a man for threatening violence against a school on social media. Cameron Sears, 23, of Suffolk, was charged with threats of death or injury to persons and school property.

Another arrest of a man who allegedly threatened a school shooting was made by police in Massachusetts on Saturday.

In that case, police said multiple reports were received about a post made by Justin Moreira, 29, threatening a shooting at an unnamed location. Moreira was later located at his residence and taken into custody, the Barnstable Police Department said in a news release on Facebook. He was charged with making terroristic threats and was ordered held without bail, the police department said.
