Fluffy Cat Sally Who Loves Wearing Halloween Costumes Wins Pet of the Week

This week we're putting a spooky twist on our Newsweek Pet of the Week with our favorite pets, either dressed to impress for Halloween or boasting super fun Halloween names.

In the last week, we've seen all of the scariest things captured on Ring cameras and raised eyebrows at an unusual seasonal recipe in the form of a candy corn grilled cheese sandwich.

When we asked for our readers' Halloween pets, they did not disappoint—and we can't wait to share our favorites.

Next week, we'll be picking our pet of the week as usual so don't forget to scroll to the end of this page to find out how you can enter.

Winner

Sally the cat
This week's Newsweek Pet of the Week is 6-year-old cat Sally who loves wearing costumes and lives with owner Stacey in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Stacey S.

Our pet of the week this week is 6-year-old cat Sally who loves wearing costumes.

Owner Stacey from Collegeville, Pennsylvania told Newsweek: "I've had Sally since she was 8 weeks old. She loves wearing costumes. She is awesome."

With outfits including a Star Wars Ewok, a spooky pumpkin, and a frightening witch, Sally is all set for the Halloween weekend.

While dressing your pet for the spooky season can provide some adorable pictures and much amusement, it is important to remember your best friend's comfort at the same time.

Director of claims and chief underwriter at Embrace Pet Insurance, Jenna Mahan shared some tips to ensure your pet enjoys a fun and comfortable Halloween.

"The costume needs to allow your pet free movement of their legs, head, and tail," Mahan told Newsweek. "It is important to not put your dog in a costume that is going to irritate their armpits or around the genitals. Make sure their tail is free and that they can relieve themselves easily."

It is also important to get your pet to agree to its new costume. "Don't wait until the day before the Halloween party to introduce your pet to their costume. Have special treats on hand when putting your dog into their costume so they can gradually be introduced to the stylish garb. Giving your pet the affirmation that they look good in their costume will keep them calm and feeling good," explained Mahan.

Finalists

1 of 3

Of course, we couldn't just pick one Halloween favorite this week. Our first finalist is aptly named Ghost the boxer and pit bull cross.

Living with owner Jacqueline Mapp, the adorable pup is just 12 weeks old. Mapp told Newsweek: "There is never a dull moment when Ghost is around."

Our next Halloween-inspired finalist is the aptly named Ichabod Crane. It is inspired by the gothic story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, of which a film adaptation was produced by Walt Disney.

Ichabod the cat lives with owner Claire Morrow in San Francisco, California.

"I adopted him from a shelter in Albuquerque, New Mexico," Morrow told Newsweek. "He arrived at the shelter on October 25, so they named him Ichabod."

"Ichabod is such a gentle, loving cat. He mostly just wants to be with you," said Morrow. "He sits on my lap every night while I eat dinner and just wants to sit there."

Last but definitely not least this week, we're bringing back a favorite from a previous Pet of the Week with rescue dog Fancy who lives with Pam and Tim Sheehan at a farm in Colbert, Washington.

Pictured in a costume fit for the season, Fancy lives with six cats, three chickens, two bunnies, and two llamas.
