Fox News Host Tucker Carlson Claims Rape Victims Who Don't Report Crimes Are 'Part of the Problem'

Fox News host Tucker Carlson continued to defend Brett Kavanaugh and question his accusers Tuesday, claiming that rape victims who don't report attacks on them are "part of the problem."

Carlson was speaking specifically about an allegation brought forward by California professor Christine Blasey Ford, which was made public last week and has thrown Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court into jeopardy. Ford has accused Kavanaugh, during a high school party more than three decades ago, of pushing her onto a bed, before groping her, trying to remove her clothes and putting his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming.

Carlson, though, questioned why Ford, who initially made her allegation anonymously to the leading Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Dianne Feinstein, did not report the incident at the time.

"She's claiming that this man sexually assaulted her and altered the course of her life," Carlson said during a segment with radio host Ethan Bearman. "She didn't tell anybody his name for 36 years, during which time he got married, he interacted with many others in our population.

"Sex offenders tend to commit serial sex crimes.Doesn't she have an obligation to tell someone to stop him from doing that if he is, in fact, a sex criminal? Where's her obligation here?"

Bearman sought to explain to Carlson the reasons why sexual assault victims are reluctant to come forward, which include the shame and blame that they are often subjected to. But Carlson did not want to hear it.

"If he's actually a sex criminal, we have a right to know that and she has an obligation to tell us," he said. "And I know it's hard but why don't we have the right to know? If there's a rapist on the loose, if you don't tell anybody, if Bernie Madoff rips you off and you don't tell his other investors, you're part of the problem, are you not?"

Carlson's comments in part echoed those made by President Donald Trump in defense of his nominee.

"I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!" Trump tweeted last week.

Since that tweet, a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, has come forward alleging that Kavanaugh exposed himself and thrust his penis in her face, causing her to touch it, during a party while they were both studying at Yale University.

Despite Ford and Kavanaugh being set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, the committee has set a vote on the nominee for Friday.
