French Bulldog Caught Napping in Most Bizarre Spot: 'Stay Ready'

They may only be small, but French bulldogs can make excellent watchdogs as they're always on high alert for just about anything. It can make for pretty exhausting work at times, which is why one Frenchie was caught napping in the most peculiar of ways.

As the owner of several French bulldogs, Sally Padawer knows all too well just how quirky they can be, but 6-year-old Sherman certainly keeps her guessing. While the other dogs found comfy spots to take a nap, the same couldn't be said for Sherman, who didn't need a bed or a couch to fall asleep. In fact, he's happy with just facing a kitchen cabinet instead. Standing up.

Padawer, from the U.S. told Newsweek that when she found him "sleeping in one of his funny ways" she couldn't resist recording it and sharing it on TikTok (@frenchietopia). While Sherman's antics often leaves social media perplexed, his owner joked that she's "so used to Frenchies now, very little surprises" her anymore.

Since the clip revealing "the Sherman way" of sleeping was posted on March 15, it has delighted many and already gained more than 1.5 million views and over 212,600 likes on TikTok.

"Like many Frenchies, Sherman likes to sleep in very strange ways, and this moment was one of those times," Padawer continued. "Sherman is the most laid-back dog we have. I think out of all our dogs, he has the biggest fan base because I'm always telling him to move or go out, and he'll just stay there relaxing."

What could possibly be inside the cupboard which is so important to Sherman? It's natural to assume there must be treats or perhaps some tasty dog food in there. Alas no, it's actually just plastic food containers in that cupboard, but that won't stop Sherman from staying alert. When he falls asleep like that, Padawer says he can stay there for around 10 minutes before waking up and finding a comfier spot to relax.

Sherman's peculiar sleeping habits has certainly made him a viral sensation on social media, as Padawer told Newsweek that "the reaction has been fantastic" so far.

She said: "Some people were surprised to see him snoozing like that, and others thought it was just really funny. The were jokes about him being a military dog, some said he has FOMO [fear of missing out], or that he wanted treats.

"Each of our dogs definitely have their followers, but I think Sherman is everyone's favorite."

With over 1,800 comments on the post already, plenty of TikTok users lauded Sherman's determination to stay alert at all costs. One comment reads: "Sherman is staying locked loaded and ready for action."

Another person joked: "Sherman said if you stay ready, you don't need to get ready."

While another TikToker responded: "no one will ever catch him slacking."
