Disney released the first teaser for the anticipated sequel to 2013 hit film Frozen, Frozen 2, on Wednesday, and it's given a few clues to what viewers can expect in the storyline and other small details. This isn't the first revival for the characters of Arendelle; they were originally seen in a short, quick film called Frozen Fever, which aired as a preview in theaters in 2015. Here's everything we know about the official sequel.
Release Date
Frozen 2 has been given a "fall" release date, according to the new teaser video. Officially, the film will be released on November 22, according to the Internet Movie Database. This is almost exactly six years after the premiere of the original film, which hit theaters on November 27, 2013.
Cast
The stars of Frozen will return for Frozen 2, with a few added, big names. Idina Menzel will return as Elsa along with sister Anna, played by Kristen Bell. Their trusty sidekicks, Kristoff, played by Jonathan Groff and Olaf, played by Josh Gad, are also slated to return. Their characters are all seen in the teaser trailer.
New names, however, have been added to the line-up. Westworld star and Across The Universe favorite Evan Rachel Wood has been added to the cast list, along with This Is Us actor Sterling K. Brown. Their characters are still unknown. Rumors swirled the two would join the hit family film sequel last July.
Plot
The teaser is exactly that: a teaser. There's no set plotline, but there are a few, very obvious differences between Frozen and its upcoming sequel. For starters, Frozen welcomed families to a frozen wasteland, which was designed at the hand of Elsa. The Frozen 2 teaser opens with cascading waves on a beach, no ice in sight—that is until Elsa decides to climb them with her powers.
Then a change of scene shows beautiful, glowing fall trees of oranges and reds. It's a far vision from the world of Frozen 2, which was covered with snow and ice. It may suggest Elsa is in a better head space than she was in the first film.
Though no official plot has been revealed, it's said "Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf are going far in the forest to know the truth about an ancient mystery of their kingdom," according to the description on IMDB.
