A postmortem examination to determine the cause of George Michael's death has proved "inconclusive," according to police.
Thames Valley Police said Friday that further tests will need to be conducted but "the results of these tests are unlikely to be known for several weeks," reported Sky News.
The British singer was found dead at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire on Christmas Day. He was 53.
Michael rose to fame as a member of pop duo Wham!, with whom he enjoyed success with hits including "Last Christmas." He went on to forge a lucrative solo career with tracks such as "Faith" and "Careless Whisper."
"It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period," the star's family said in a statement via police on Christmas Day.
Police said Michael's body was found at his home shortly before 2 p.m. and the death was being treated as "unexplained but not suspicious."
