Man Giving 'Swing Advice' to Pro Woman Golfer Sparks Fury

Video footage of a man giving a woman unsolicited advice on her golf swing—despite her being a professional golfer—has sparked outrage among social media users.

Georgia Ball, who is a professional golfer and coach, took to her TikTok account this week to share the footage, which showed her being interrupted by a man off-camera as she enjoyed some solitary practice.

"So the guy next to me tried to give me 'swing advice,'" read a caption at the start of the video, as Ball filmed herself taking a swing.

"Excuse me," said the unnamed man. "What you're doing there, you shouldn't be. You should be right through. Swing and follow through. You're doing [it] too slow on the way up and then back."

After patiently listening to the advice, Ball, who is based in Merseyside, England, explained: "I'm going through a swing change at the minute, so everything I'm..."

"No, I know, but what you're doing there is you're coming back too slow," the man interrupted, as Ball paused her swing to look at him. "You know, I've been playing golf for 20 years. What you need to do is follow through a lot quicker than what you're doing there right now."

Appearing a tad exasperated, PGA professional Ball reiterated to her uninvited coach: "I'm going through a swing change at the minute. So with that, I'm just making everything..."

"Just hit one," the man said as he interrupted the professional golfer once again.

"I knew I had to make a good one," reads a screen caption before Ball's subsequent swing, which proved impressive.

However, that only appeared to exacerbate tensions, as the man then took credit for the display of Ball's golfing prowess.

"See how much better that was?" he was heard asking Ball, causing her to scoff and smile to herself at his suggestion. In a screen caption, Ball explained that she was "laughing in shock at what this guy is saying."

"Yeah, thanks. I don't think that was... Yeah," a laughing Ball responded. "I'm actually going through a swing change at the minute, so everything's slow."

"I don't know whether you see or watch golf," Ball continued to the man. "The best players in the world, when they are making a practice swing or they're going through a change..."

"No, I know what you're saying," the man interjected. "But what I'm saying is, I've been playing golf for 20 years, so you just need to follow through. See how much better that one was then?"

As Ball wrote in her screen caption that she was "trying to keep it together," the man advised: "Keep doing that anyway, OK?"

Ball then laughed, as she turned to the man and said: "Thanks for your advice."

The clip, which has been viewed more than 7.3 million times on TikTok, has sparked outrage among viewers on the platform, where Ball has more than 155,000 followers. She also posted the footage on Instagram, where many of her 173,000 followers weighed in with their takes.

Newsweek has contacted Ball via Instagram for comment.

"So glad you posted this because it is my BIGGEST frustration when I'm at the driving range," said one Instagram user. "Unfortunately men always feel the need to comment on my swing or want to coach me. Guys take note: Please don't."

"I mean he's been golfing for 20 years, so he's pretty much Tiger Woods," another quipped.

"I can't believe how polite you were," read another comment. "I live in Boston and this would have ended entirely differently if I was filming... Brava!"

Over on TikTok, one viewer wrote: "I've been driving for 25 years but I'm not about to give Lewis Hamilton some pointers."

"The worst part is, he does not even give you a chance to explain, just forces his opinion and advice onto you, good on you for staying calm and polite," a different commenter said.

"The NERVE of him to take credit for your next drive is infuriating!" read another comment.

"Mansplaining hurts me physically," said one of Ball's followers, echoing the sentiments of many who used the term to describe what they had just watched.

The term "mansplaining" refers to the act of a man explaining something to a woman in a condescending or patronizing way. It's also often the case that said "mansplainers" will be offering up an unsolicited explanation on a topic the woman is already well-versed in.
