Gina Carano Says Fans Are Thanking Her for Taking a Stand With Lawsuit

Actress Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm with the help of Elon Musk for her dismissal from The Mandalorian, and her fans have rallied behind her.

Carano appeared as Cara Dune in the Star Wars spin-off in seven episodes over two seasons and became a fan favorite.

However, the conservative had previously said she was allegedly removed from the project for "exercising (her) right to free speech" after sharing some controversial posts on social media in 2020.

The actress has now announced she has filed a lawsuit against the companies, with love and support coming from her fans who have shared messages such as "I am so proud of you" and "We stand with you Gina!"

Carano took to X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday to divulge the news, starting her statement with: "Today is an important day for me--I am filing a lawsuit against @lucasfilm & @Disney."

Her full statement can be read here, and in it, she blasts Disney, writing: "After my 20 years of building a career from scratch, and during the regime of former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, Lucasfilm made this statement on Twitter, terminating me from The Mandalorian: 'Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm & there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural & religious identities are abhorrent & unacceptable.'"

Carano said: "Nothing could be further from the truth," and discussed Musk's support, adding: "I would like to express my deepest gratitude & thank you to @ElonMusk & @X for giving me an opportunity to bring my case to light."

When this article was published, her statement had been viewed 26.5 million times, with thousands of comments left.

She also joined Fox News anchor Jesse Watters on Tuesday to discuss the matter, where she referenced how "if this can happen to me it can happen to anyone."

Carano said that fans often approach her to "thank" her for standing up and speaking out, and she also applauded Musk and X for "championing" her.

A supporter commented on the video: "I just think it's AWESOME Elon is paying for it."

"Sue girl, sue big! Win big!" another chimed in, with a third jabbing: "Disney is worthless."

A devotee commented: "Get 'em!" with a further ally cheering: "You've got my support."

A clear fan of The Mandalorian used a line often spoken in the series to share their encouragement: "This is the way."

She was also met with some social media users who did not care for her cause.

"She ain't fighting for me!!!" a viewer of the Fox interview clapped back.

"Same old rehashed Trump line. Yawn," a second said, with a third adding: "'If it can happen to me, it can happen to you.' The favorite saying of many folks these days that would rather play the victim card than admit any wrongdoing on their end. Sad."

Carano's previous posts, which led to her parting ways with Disney, came when she shared a post that mocked those wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic as well as comments about voter fraud during the 2020 presidential elections.

The ex-MMA fighter turned actor had compared the experience of being a Republican today to that of the Jewish people during the Holocaust in one post on Instagram.

Newsweek has contacted the legal team representing Gina Carano via email for comment as well as reached out to Disney and Lucasfilm's press teams via email for comment.
