Furious Golden Retriever Gives Owner 'the Attitude' Over Blanket Wash Day

This pampered golden retriever has a life of luxury most of the time, but there's one day every month that he dreads: laundry day.

Sarah Newlon was only trying to help her pup, named Bowie, by putting his favorite blankets into the laundry to make them feel nice and clean for his next snooze. But the golden is not a fan of this monthly ritual and he isn't afraid to make his thoughts known, as he will bark and groan as soon as he realizes they're missing.

Newlon, from Brooklyn, New York, thinks his reaction is hilarious every time, telling Newsweek that "it never stops being cute because it's so human-like and innocent."

On the latest laundry day, Bowie's dramatic reaction was caught on camera, much to the delight of Newlon's thousands of social media followers. On January 9 she posted the clip on TikTok (@nycgolden) showing "the attitude" she's greeted with when his blankets are taken away to be cleaned, and the clip quickly went viral with more than 425,000 views and 37,900 likes already.

"His blankets and toys both provide him with a lot of security, especially at night when he's sleeping. He also likes having his blankets and bed in very specific areas that he chooses," Newlon told Newsweek.

"When he notices they're gone, he barks and looks at his bed. When I ask him what's wrong, he gives me a face like he knows someone moved his blankets."

There are many reasons why dogs might love having a blanket, whether it's just for warmth, or it could ease their anxiety by providing comfort. But according to PetMD, the ideal blanket should be lightweight, breathable, and not too big relative to the dog's size.

However, regardless of how attached a pup is to it, it's also vital that the blankets are regularly put through the wash to remove the bacteria growing within. As suggested by PetMD, bacteria will thrive in the warmth and dirtiness of a pet blanket, and if that's not monitored over time, it can make the pet very sick in turn.

Fortunately for Bowie, it wasn't long before his blankets were returned to their rightful place: one on his dog bed, and the other laid out on the floor. After seeing the dog's tantrum on wash day, Newlon joked that "it's just like having a toddler in the house."

It's been thrilling to see the response to her video online, as Newlon said her followers found his reaction very endearing "and it leaves them wanting to see more." As she didn't want to leave Bowie's new fans and followers guessing, Newlon posted some follow-up videos showing the moment he finally got his blankets back—cue the collective sigh of relief.

"Dogs bring joy in the smallest moments, it's special watching life through their eyes," she told Newsweek.

With over 300 comments on the post, many people lauded the fussy dog's bravery for being able to get through such a difficult day without his favorite items. One comment reads: "dogs hate change. I moved my couch once and it was so dramatic I had to move it back."

Another person joked: "I didn't request a turn down service!"

While another TikToker responded: "He is so sassy."
