Moment Golden Retriever Realizes Why Santa Won't Be Visiting This Year

It may look like butter wouldn't melt in this golden retriever's mouth, but actually Millie is on Santa's naughty list.

Millie's owner Grace Crabtree, 30, has recently revealed Father Christmas won't be stopping off at their house during a viral Instagram video shared to @redgirlmillie. The footage starts with Millie sitting on the floor smiling, as she appears to be angelic and obedient. The clip then cuts to damaged household goods such as the legs of a table and a chewed-up rug corner.

The on-screen text read: "When Christmas is around the corner and you remember all the bad you've done." So far, the clip captioned, "Santa Paws will not be coming to town," has almost 900,000 views and nearly 25,000 likes.

Crabtree, a high school math teacher, told Newsweek: "She's definitely in the naughty list this year from all of the things she's destroyed."

"But I think Santa Paws might make an exception for her this year," added Crabtree, from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Last December, a survey from Personal Capital, a financial company, found that Americans are more likely to buy their pet a present over their in-laws. Of the 2,200 adults who participated, 34 percent of dog owners said their canine was going to get a gift, and only 19 percent of respondents replied that their in-laws will get one.

Many people may not be surprised by this, because dogs are now treated like royalty. Some owners even throw parties for their pet's birthday, but there is no guarantee that it won't sink into chaos.

Previously, Newsweek spoke to several animal behaviorists and veterinarians to find out the top causes of disobedience in dogs. These include:

  • Inconsistent/insufficient training and negative reinforcement
  • Life stages
  • Temperament and emotions
  • Lack of exercise and boredom
  • Health issues

It is unclear why and when Millie hacked at her owner's furniture, but she is only 1 year old, and chewing is what puppies do best.

So far, the clip has received a lot of attention online since it was posted on November 21. Many users have swarmed to the rescue and have suggested ways in which Millie can make it up to Santa.

"No, no you just put out a big plate of cookies (and don't eat them) and Santa Paws will forgive you," posted one person.

Another wrote: "Sometimes our fur babies just want to add their own special touch to our home decor. It's real hard to stay mad when they are so stinking cute."

"Shhhh hopefully Santa doesn't remember. All the good far outweighs the naughty!!" added a third viewer.

Recently, the internet was left in tears as a rescue dog facetimed Santa to tell him he is no longer in the shelter. Sadly, this isn't the reality for many dogs who are desperate to find a loving home ahead of Christmas.
