Golden Retriever Smirks After Causing Mayhem: 'Guilt, instantly'

A dog owner has gone viral on TikTok after revealing the knowing smirk she was greeted with after leaving her golden retriever at home alone—and they were more than happy to cause mayhem while unattended.

While her owner was out of the house, Sadie the golden retriever took it upon herself to stay occupied, and that meant absolutely nothing was off limits. Unfortunately for the pup, she doesn't have much of a poker face, and as soon as her owner returned home, Sadie's smirk was an instant giveaway that she'd been up to no good.

The video of Sadie looking extremely pleased with herself was posted on her dedicated TikTok account (@sadiepawsdaily) on January 16, much to social media's delight. The clip has become a viral hit, with more than 409,500 views and over 28,400 likes at the time of writing.

Sadie's owner asked her "what did you do while I was gone today?" in the video, but it wasn't long before she saw it for her own eyes. Alongside the clip, the caption jokes: "Not much, just don't look upstairs, or in any of the bathrooms...and especially not the kitchen."

Upon discovering the extent of Sadie's antics while she was alone, her owner added that she's going to "need to buy more toilet paper and Fruit Loops," and even wash the bed linen. There's no doubt that Sadie was happy to keep herself busy by causing mayhem, and she looked awfully happy with what she did.

Sadie's cheeky antics came as quite the surprise to her owner, but it's vital for anyone with a dog to look out for certain signs and triggers for unwanted behavior. The website PetMD recommends owners consider what their dog is destroying, when they're doing it, and whether they're using their teeth or claws to do so.

PetMD encourages owners to rule out medical issues and anxiety first, as they are possible causes for unwanted behavior and can be addressed quickly. In those instances, dogs may be destroying items to cope with the situation they find themselves in, but can hurt themselves in the process.

If it's not a medical or anxious response, owners should consider providing more enrichment, exercise and mental stimulation to keep their dog occupied throughout the day. Importantly, owners shouldn't punish their dog for being destructive and should simply reward positive behavior instead, which can gradually discourage any negative antics.

Since the video of Sadie's cheeky smirk went viral, social media users can't get enough of her mischievous expression—but many social media users insisted that she's totally innocent.
