A final season of mayhem will soon commence on Gotham. The Season 5 premiere of Gotham is slated to air on Fox on Thursday, and with it will come Detective James Gorden's final attempt to rid the dark town of its atrocities, crimes and utter craziness.
Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) watch may be coming to an end with the final season of Gotham, but the remaining episodes of the Fox series will at least launch the beginning of Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) rise as the city's caped-crusader, the Dark Knight. Of course, with Gotham being cut off from the rest of the world in Season 4, the new season will also track the rise of some of the biggest villains of the DC Comics' Batman anthology.
The first episode of the season, titled "Year Zero," will pick up with Gotham still in disarray under the leadership of Jeremiah (Cameron Monaghan) and several other villains. The episode synopsis reads: "Jim Gordon and Bruce Wayne face the chaos Gotham City has become, as the villains who survived the attack on the city begin to resurface and claim various territories; Selina Kyle (Camren Dicondova) grapples with how to deal with her uncertain future."
Before the series concludes this spring, Gotham fans will finally see Bruce step into his role as the Dark Knight, but that won't come without many challenges by his frenemy, Jeremiah, as hinted in the final season's trailer. Jeremiah, seemingly an early version of the Joker, is hardly the biggest threat Gotham will face in Season 5, though. When Gordon's army pal visits Gotham, he'll bring even more trouble to the crime-infested city under the guise of Bane—although it's likely fans won't meet the character until later in the season.
The series premiere is set to air on Fox on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET. Folks with Hulu Live subscriptions can live stream the episode there, while it'll be available for standard customers on-demand after the episode airs.
