The nominees for the 59th annual Grammy Awards were announced Tuesday morning and, as expected, Adele and Beyonce will face off for the three biggest awards: Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Beyoncé was nominated for her album Lemonade and song "Formation," and Adele for her album 25 and song "Hello." Beyoncé led all artists with nine total nominations. Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West each had eight.
It might feel like it's been a while since Adele released 25, maybe even more than a year. That's because it has been, but it doesn't matter: For an album or song to be nominated, it has to have been released between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016. Adele released 25 on November 20, 2015.
Notable omissions include David Bowie's Blackstar for Album of the Year and Kanye West from any of the major categories, which we'll surely hear about soon.
The 2017 Grammys ceremony will be held on February 12 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Late Late Show host James Corden will host the awards, which will air on CBS.
