Woman Didn't Believe Grandpa 'Rejected a Lot of Women,' Until the Photos

One woman's deep dive into her family history is making waves on social media, but not for reasons you might think.

In a viral Instagram video, Yasmin Von Roon shared photos of her handsome grandfather in the 1940s to support his claim that he "rejected a lot of women" back in his day. The video has received over 175,000 likes since it was posted five days ago.

"My grandpa said that he rejected a lot of women back in his days. I didn't believe him until I saw [these] pictures of the 40s."

A later photo in the slideshow shows Yasmin's grandmother, with the caption "His only queen: my grandma."

Yasmin, a 27-year-old master's degree student living in China, told Newsweek that the video was inspired by a TikTok trend in which users showcase old photos of their parents or grandparents. Having come across her grandfather's photos recently, she decided to make her own contribution.

Because her grandfather died a few years back, accessing a version of him in this way was meaningful for Yasmin.

"Seeing those photos and reminiscing about my grandpa's past filled me with a mix of nostalgia and admiration," she said. "He always had incredible stories to share. He was the kindest person ever, and his humility and warmth left a lasting impact on me."

While commenters may not have had this context, they were sure to appreciate his claim that he was sought after in his day: "Oh, I could tell he was fine before you even showed the older pictures," @theclosetratchet wrote.

The photo of her grandmother in the Instagram video also received attention from commenters: "Grandma's version please!" @daydreamo0 said.

Yasmin said her grandparents' love epitomized a romantic partnership. With a shared passion for education and travel, her grandfather, a doctor, and her grandmother, a professor, always made time for each other, "showering one another with sweet words and little gifts until the very end," she said.

The couple traveled extensively to such places as Syria, Sri Lanka and India, and they studied together as well. They also loved to cook together and attend wine tastings.

"Witnessing their journey through those images was heartwarming," Yasmin said.

Although she was unable to share her experience with the photos or the video she made with her grandfather, she was able to with her grandmother, and it was well received.

"After the video went viral, my mom showed my grandma the comments and likes and she was very happy," she said. "[She] felt emotional for my grandfather. It was a very special bond that they had."

The video served as a tribute to Yasmin's grandfather, revealing an enduring, cross-generational love story. Still, viewers resonated with the original humor.

"Grandpa and grandma were hot," @annelutomia wrote.
