Season 2 of 'grown-ish' premiered Wednesday night, and it looks like sophomore year was off to a not-so-great start for Zoey.
If you missed the kick-off to season 2, Hulu is now streaming the most recent episodes.
Spoilers ahead:
Zoey, played by Yara Shahidi, returned to Cal U from her summer break and plans to rule her second year in college.
After a quick recap of her freshman year – getting dumped, addiction to uppers and becoming the "cup b**ch" – she is ready for her chance to start over.
Despite the uplifting monologue, Zoey is quickly shot down to reality when she realizes her pricey apartment is a complete dump.
"Oh, did I say bigger and better? I meant filthier and absolutely devastating," Zoey says to the camera.
During her cleaning party, Zoey finds out from Aaron – yep, the guy she broke up with last season – that Luca was already home from his summer in Paris.
Planning on a big, extravagant reunion moment, it came to Zoey's surprise that Luca was, indeed, in his apartment and didn't even think to call her.
This event later spirals tension between the couple in the following scenes and in episode two.
After venting to Nomi and Ana about her extremely anticlimactic night with Luca, she had another dose of reality – her sophomore year wasn't going to be perfect.
The first episode of season 2 concludes with Zoey admitting things are completely good with Luca but has her friends to lean on.
Episode 2 was mainly dedicated to Zoey trying to figure out why she and Luca were more in sync when they were thousands of miles away.
She ends up confiding in an unusual person – Aaron. Nothing spicy happens between them, but it's obvious that he still has feelings for her.
Zoey then goes to her handy-dandy Snapchat to try and smooth things out with Luca. She then asked Luca what hashtag they'd be in they weren't #RelationshipGoals, and he simply responds with: "We wouldn't have one. We're just us."
After that cute exchange, they run into each other and have their first positive face-to-face conversation.
Luca told Zoey he was scared and just wanted everything to work out.
The episode concludes was Luca saying those three little words and sealing it with a kiss.
Again, all things seemed right in the world – but then we got a preview into the next episode: Zoey suffers her first panic attack and is seen in the emergency room, dressed in a hospital gown.
Grown-ish will be back next Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
