Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday issued a warning to his viewers about the controversy surrounding special counsel Robert Mueller's report into possible Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election: Democrats are in a "psychotic state of denial," and everything they say on the matter is "forever meaningless."
Hannity, a vocal Trump supporter and ally, opened his show on Monday evening by attacking Democrats for their handling of the Mueller investigation and other investigations into the president.
"The Democratic mob is out of control grasping at straws," he said. "It is officially a psychotic state of denial. This is the absolute truth and reality that the Democrats in Washington, the media mob, cannot possibly come to grips with. The reality. The truth that will set them free. They are now in a psychotic rage and it keeps spinning over and over again in their little liberal brains."
The host went on to advise viewers to ignore the "meaningless" assertions made by the Democratic party, whom he believes will find any reason to get rid of Trump.
"Every single thing, I'll say it tonight once and for all, you hear from this day forward about Mueller and Russia and collusion and obstruction and Trump is nothing but forever meaningless and just a lot of noise by bitter people," Hannity declared before claiming that "four separate investigations concluded that [there was] no Trump campaign-Russia collusion."
"None. Zero. Nothing. Nothing they say is going to change that," he continued. "Mueller is done, it's over. This is like worse for them than election night 2016."
He added: "Look at the liberal tears, panic, mayhem and downright unhinged nature of everybody. I'm being blunt here. This is now officially a mass mental disturbance never before seen on this kind of level. Full blown psychotic meltdown."
Hannity then segued the segment into the latest news surrounding Attorney General William Barr. "The rage Trump mob's new favorite target is, of course, [William Barr]," he said. "They gotta blame somebody but themselves for the lies they told and the conspiracies and the hoax they believed and spread."
The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler (N.Y.), on Wednesday will vote to commence the formal process of holding Barr in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena requesting the full 448-page unredacted Mueller report and its underlying evidence.
The move comes after Barr missed a Monday deadline to provide lawmakers with the report or an adequate response as to why he was not able to comply. In recent days, Barr has indicated that he will not be complying with the subpoena because the law doesn't allow it.
Barr backed out of a House Judiciary Committee hearing last week, where he was expected to testify. His refusal to turn up further fuelled calls made by Democrats for his resignation or impeachment over his allegedly inadequate and biased handling of Mueller's report.
Barr's four-page summary of Mueller's report, released on March 24, prompted Trump and his supports to assert that the president had been completely exonerated.
"No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!" Trump tweeted shortly after Barr's letter was released.
White House Sarah Huckabee Sanders echoed the president's sentiments, saying: "The Special Counsel did not find any collusion and did not find any obstruction. AG Barr and DAG Rosenstein further determined there was no obstruction. The findings of the Department of Justice are a total and complete exoneration of the President of the United States."
Barr's summary concluded that Mueller "did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election." But the attorney general said the special counsel neither exonerated nor indicted Trump with regard to whether he obstructed justice.
The release of Mueller's redacted report on April 18 however, painted a more damning picture for Trump. Although the special counsel did not accuse Trump of a crime, his report revealed ample evidence of wrongdoing by the president and his inner circle, stating at least 12 instances in which Trump may have obstructed justice.
