Harvard Students' Suit Alleges School Ignored Professor's Sexual Harassment

Three female graduate students at Harvard filed a lawsuit on Tuesday accusing the university of ignoring students' charges of sexual harassment and threats by an anthropology professor.

Margaret Czerwienski, Lilia Kilburn and Amulya Mandava, who filed the lawsuit in Boston federal court, accused the Ivy League school of failing to respond to allegations that professor John Comaroff sexually harassed, groped and made unwanted advances toward students for years.

The three women said that they were among several students who reported Comaroff's behavior to Harvard officials but the university did not act accordingly. Instead, the lawsuit alleges, Harvard stood by as Comaroff made a threat that the students would have "trouble getting jobs" if they complained about his actions, according to Reuters.

The lawsuit came just days after Harvard announced that it would place Comaroff on leave for the spring semester after it decided he had engaged in verbal conduct that violated sexual harassment and professional conduct policies.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
