'Hearthstone' Monster Hunt Coming April 26: Encounters, Heroes and Witches

Hearthstone's new single-player mode, Monster Hunt, hits live servers April 26. Blizzard released a Hearthside Chat video with Lead Mission Designer Dave Kosak to explain some of the creepiness coming in the completely free addition.

Encounters

Blizzard is adding more than 45 unique encounters in Monster Hunt, completely scrapping all the bosses we faced in Kobolds and Catacombs. Rarer bosses will drop their own unique treasures, like defeating Grubb the Swampdrinker will grant you "Chuck," a six-mana spell that throws all the minions in your hand and deals damage to your opponent's face. Each monster hunter has a unique final boss called a "Nemesis," which adds to the game mode's lore. After you complete the Dungeon Run with all four heroes, you'll unlock a special boss fight against Hagatha The Witch.

Here are three bosses revealed in the video:

Griselda- A sassy frog who can turn your minions into 0/1 amphibians with Taunt.

Ravencaller Cuzzleworth- One of the mode's early bosses whose Hero Power adds a one-cost minion to his hand.

Grotto The Bogwarden- He raises minions he's killed as 1/3 zombies that explode after they take lethal damage, dealing one damage to every character.

Heroes

Each monster hunter has exclusive treasures and Hero Powers that makes them unique. Tess Greymane and Darius Crowley were featured in the video, leaving Houndmaster Shaw and Toki, Time Tinker as mysteries.

Tess Greymane- His Hero Power, Scavenge, costs two mana and Discovers a class spell that was played this game.

Darius Crowley- Cannoneer who starts the game with an indestructible cannon. His Hero Power fires his Cannon and deals damage to the minions across from it. It can be fired for two mana and if it kills a minion, it can be activated again. You can draft passive cards that can make your cannon deal more damage or make your cards cheaper every time you fire your cannon. "Darius is all about positional play, so you want to make sure you sequence your attacks and place your minions correctly," Associate Game Designer Paul Nguyen said.
