'Hearthstone' The Witchwood Legendary Revealed: Lord Godfrey Is Defile on Steroids

Russian Hearthstone streamer Plag1at revealed the first Warlock Legendary from "The Witchwood" Expansion, Lord Godfrey . He's an amazingly powerful card that's like Defile on steroids. Paying seven mana for a minion with 4/4 stats sounds mediocre, but being able to kill entire boards of large or small minions, while still retaining some board presence yourself, is nothing to scoff at. The meta has been plagued with Paladin minions with Divine Shield and huge pools of Warlock Void Lords and Voidwalkers. This minion is a great counter and I see him being included in every deck that runs Hellfire or Twisting Nether.

It does seem a bit odd that Blizzard would print another board clear for Warlock when they already have so many. But, this is the first and only board clear with an odd number mana cost, allowing you to use it alongside Baku The Mooneater and create an odd-cost Warlock archetype. Warlock has already some amazing odd-costing cards like Possessed Lackey and kobold Librarian, all they were missing was some reliable wave clear. One high-costing minion isn't enough to make the deck top-tier, but we are only on day two of The Witchwood's card reveals.

Lord Godfrey was a nobleman in the World of Warcraft lore serving under Genn Greymane. He killed himself after discovering that the lord and many of his people were afflicted with the Worgen curse but was brought back to life by the Forsaken. Soon after he ran away to the ruins of Shadowfang Keep, where he's the cave's final boss. He's a perfect fit for The Witchwood expansion, which adapts some of the spookier elements of Azeroth.
