Hearts Melt as Dog 'Very Depressed' After Best Friend Dies Gets New Puppy

A golden retriever called Jamie has moved viewers on TikTok after his reaction to getting a new puppy went viral.

In a post shared Sunday on TikTok by the dog's owner under the username Thepoetsdwelling, the pup can be seen running around the house with his new little sister, a small golden retriever puppy called Bonnie. He is teaching her all the ways to have fun at home, ecstatic to have a sibling to play with again.

In a previous post, the dog's owner explained that Jamie's best friend, their former dog, Emma, died last month, and since that moment he has no longer been himself.

A caption with the post said: "He became very depressed and withdrawn... I found him sitting in the kitchen by himself, just sadly looking around... He knew I was there but he didn't look at me. I just watched him for a minute before going to him and giving him a hug... I didn't know dogs mourn like we do.

The caption went on: "This was so sad and heartbreaking... my happy little buddy went from loving life to lost and nothing we did to make him feel better was working... After I took this video, maat and I knew we had to do something more. We weren't quite ready to move on from Emma but he had never been the only dog..."

So the couple got their pet a new puppy, even though they weren't planning on getting one just yet, and Jamie could not be any happier about his beloved little sister.

It's not unusual for dogs to grieve the loss of someone they've bonded with, according to the American Kennel Club. Although they might not understand the full extent of the absence, they certainly understand the feeling of missing someone that is no longer with them.

Anxiety and stress are indicators that your dog is grieving. Other signs of grief are loss of appetite, weight loss, lack of energy, listlessness or clinginess, and loss of interest in physical activity.

The video quickly went viral and has so far received over 476,700 views and 78,100 likes.

One user, santana5256, said: "Just watched the video of him grieving alone in the kitchen. Couldn't take it so I went to go find this! Thank God!"

And Stewart Taylor280 wrote: "I just watched pt1, felt so sad for him. Went to see if there was an update. You have no idea of the huge smile on my face watching this."
